Prau is a basic fingering-weight sweater, knitted from the top down, without seams and with a circular yoke. It has 3/4 length sleeves and a split hem. It’s a very simple pattern, perfect as a first sweater project or as a template for different versions: stripes, gradients, textures, etc.

MATERIALS

  • 3.5 mm (US 4) circular needles for the body and sleeves. Adjust if necessary to achieve gauge.
  • 3 mm (US 2.5) or two sizes smaller than the larger needles for the neck and ribbing.
  • Markers, tapestry needle and waste yarn to put the sleeve stitches on hold.

YARN
850 (1000, 1100, 1250) (1400, 1550, 1800) (2000, 2250) m / 930 (1094, 1203, 1367) (1531, 1695, 1968) (2187, 2461) yards of fingering-weight yarn in a single colour. I used LaMiel Yarns Linden (100% superwash merino, 400 m / 437 yards in 100 g)

(I also made a version with one thread of black mohair and same needle size and it worked out great. Look at the images on the left and click on it for more details.)
