Picos mitts

The Picos mitts are basic fingering-weight ribbed mitts with a twist. The vertical stripes are made with a mixture of simple intarsia and colourwork techniques which are very easy and fun to knit. The stretchy fabric adapts easily to different size hands. These mitts match the Picos hat. This design was a collaboration with The Lana Box.

MATERIALS

• 2.75 mm (US 2) circular needles, either 80 cm / 32 in long (if you use the magic loop method), or 23 cm / 9 in (if you prefer short circulars) or DPNs (double-pointed needles). Or whichever size you need to match your gauge to that given below.
  
• 4 markers (2 of them removable markers), waste yarn and tapestry needle.

YARN

Fingering-weight yarn in 2 colours. I used Colosco Wool&Fibers Bovín.

• Main colour (MC): 165 m / 180 yards. I used the Buxo colourway (green).
  
• Contrasting colour (CC): 18.5 m / 10.5 yards. I used the Tendeñera colourway (grey).

SIZE

These mitts are one size only as the ribbed fabric is very stretchy and adapts well to different size hands.

GAUGE

44 stitches and 38 rounds in 10 cm / 4 inches in 1x1 rib after blocking.
