PekePuntal

PekePuntal is the kids’ version of the Puntal pattern – a basic top-down jumper, knit in the round. It has six sizes for children, from age 2 to age 12. After the neckline, short rows are added to raise the back and increases are worked at either side of the sleeves. Then the sleeves and body are separated. You continue working on the body and later pick up the stitches left on hold for the sleeves and knit those from the underarm to the cuff. A colourful stripe is added to the yoke. In the two smallest sizes an opening is included at the back neck to ensure it fits comfortably over your child’s head.

MATERIALS

• 4 mm (US6) circular needles for the body and sleeves (adjust if necessary to achieve gauge)
  
• 3.5 mm (US5) circular needles for the ribbing (or a size smaller than the main needles)
  
• 4 markers in different colours (A-D) for the raglan increases and a special marker for BOR.
  
• tapestry needle and waste yarn to put the sleeve stitches on hold
  
• 3 small buttons for ages 1-2 and 3-4 only (approximately 1.5 cm / 0.5 in in diameter)

YARN

Worsted or DK weight yarn in 3 colours. I used Lanasalpaca Loop (167 m / 183 yards in 100 g).

• Color 1 (C1): shown in colour 02 Beige in both sizes.

• Color 2 (C2): shown in colours 06 Hierbabuena (green) in the bigger size and 01 Natural in the smaller size.

• Color 3 (C3): shown in colour 11 Volcán (brown) in the bigger size and 12 Rosa Palo (pink) in the smaller size.

  yards: 252 (301, 383, 438) 497, 547 yds.

To fit ages 1-2 (3-4, 5-6, 7-8) 9-10, 11-12

How to choose your size: measure the chest circumference, add the ease recommended below (i.e. 6-7.5 cm / 2.25-3 in) and find the finished circumference at chest measurement below that is closest to that figure. Make sure your gauge matches the one given below to ensure your finished garment will be the same dimensions.

19 stitches and 28 rounds in 10 cm / 4 inches with the larger needles in stockinette stitch, in the round, after blocking.
