Muria
Muria is a triangular shawl. You start at one end and increase until you finish on the widest part. It has sections in which you use short rows to form colour blocks with different angles. Choose three main colours and a contrasting one to separate the blocks of colours. It’s garter stitch throughout so very simple but the short rows and colour changes add enough interest to make it the perfect project to knit while you chat or watch telly.
Murias are the traditional dry stone walls that separate the fields in the area of northern Spain where I’m from.
MATERIALS
- 4 mm (US6) circular needles, 80 cm (32”) long. It’s also possible to use straight needles.
- 3 markers in different colours.
YARN
Fingering weight yarn (approx. 400 m / 437 yards in 100 g) in 4 colours. I used Lanasalpaca Sasa (10% alpaca, 40% merino, 50% bamboo), 175 m (190 yards) in 50 g.
- CC: 208 m / 227 yards. I used White.
- C1: 295 m / 323 yards. I used Blue Night (blue).
- C2: 342 m / 374 yards. I used Celine (pink).
- C3: 350 m / 383 yards. I used Sea Blue (green).
DIMENSIONES
After blocking, approximately 173 cm (68”) along the left edge, 133 cm (52.25”) along the bind off edge and 188 cm (74”) along the diagonal.
GAUGE
21 stitches and 36 rows in 10 cm (4”) in garter stitch before blocking.
Gauge is not important for this shawl but it can affect the final dimensions or amount of yarn you need.
