Fitu hat and cowl

I have designed the Fitu hat and cowl to match the Fitu sweater. They are simple colourwork accessories that never use more than two colours per row and have easy-to-memorise repeats to avoid having to check the charts constantly. They are both knitted in the round, without seams, from the bottom up.

MATERIALS

• 4 mm (US 6) circular needles. 40 cm / 16” long for the hat and 60 cm / 24” long for the cowl. Adjust the needle size if necessary in order to match the gauge given below.
  
• 3.5 mm (US 4) (or two sizes smaller than the main needles) for the ribbing.
  
• Markers and tapestry needle. Optional: 85 mm pompom maker.

YARN

Sport or DK weight yarn in 4 colours. I used Rauwerk No2 100% Merino (300 m en 100 g). Please take into account that even though the Rauwerk is classified as a sport-weight yarn, it knits like a DK.

Main colour (MC): shown in Quarz (light grey).
Hat: 50 (60) m. Cowl: 115 m.
Contrasting colour 1 (CC1): shown in Alpen-Klee (pink).
Hat: 20 (25) m. Cowl: 32 m.
Contrasting colour 2 (CC2): shown in Alpen-Aurikel (yellow).
Hat: 20 (25) m (you will need extra for the pompom). Cowl: 25 m.
Contrasting colour 3 (CC3): shown in Graphit (dark grey):
Hat: 60 (70) m. Cowl: 95 m.

SIZES AND DIMENSIONS

The hat has two sizes: 1 (2).
The final dimensions are 48 (52) cm / 18.75” (20.5”) circumference and 24 cm / 9.5 inches long.

The cowl is one size only and it measures 28 cm / 11” wide and 30 cm / 11.75” tall.

GAUGE

20 stitches and 23 rounds in 10 cm / 4” with the larger needles, in colourwork after blocking.
