Coruxa mitts

The Coruxa mitts are knit with sport weight yarn, which makes them fast to knit and very warm. The cuff has a simple cable motif that looks like owls (coruxa is the word for owl in Asturias, the area of Spain where I’m from) and the rest of the mitt is a stretchy ribbed fabric, which adapts well to different hand sizes. They match the Coruxa socks.

MATERIALS

• 3 mm (US 2.5} circular needles, either 80 cm / 32 in long (if you use the magic loop method), or 23 cm / 9 in (if you prefer short circulars) or DPNs (double-pointed needles). If you use short circular needles you will still need long circular needles or DPNs for the thumb.
• 3 markers, cable needle, waste yarn and tapestry needle.

YARN

110 (150) m / 120 (165) yards sport weight yarn (approx. 300 m / 328 yards per 100g). I used Feliz y Punto Merino Sport in the Etro Speckled colourway.

SIZES

In the pattern I give two sizes based on your hand circumference around the widest part (without the thumb).

Size S (small): 17-19 cm / 6.75-7.5 in
Size L (large): 20-23 cm / 8-9 in

These sizes are only a guidelines as the mitts have a very stretchy ribbed fabric so they will adapt well to different hand sizes.

GAUGE

8 stitches and 8 rows in 2.5 cm / 1 in in the ribbed pattern (k2, p1) after blocking.
