Atayu hat
I’ve designed the Atayu Hat to match the sweater of the same name. As well as being a beautiful knit in its own right, it’s also a great way to test your colours on a small project before starting the sweater. The hat features traditional Fair Isle motifs in several colours. They are small repeats, easy to memorise, and use no more than two colours per round. Make the most of your leftover fingering-weight yarn and have fun creating your own palette to make a truly unique hat. “Atayu” is the name for a small group of sheep in a village in the dialect spoken in Asturias, the northern Spanish region where I was born.
MATERIALS
- 3.25 mm (US 3) circular needles, 40 cm / 16” long, for the body of the hat.
- 2.75 mm (US 2) circular needles (or two sizes smaller than the main needles), 40 cm / 16” long, for the ribbing.
- Markers and tapestry needle.
