Andecha is an Asturian word (the dialect from the northern Spanish region where I’m from). It’s used to denote a group of neighbours who would traditionally take turns to help each other out working the fields, making it more of a social occasion.

The Andecha shawl has a triangular shape with a traditional feather-and-fan pattern made of very simple increases and decreases. It’s a very simple and intuitive pattern suitable for beginners.

YARN

You will need sport weight yarn in three colours (a main one and two contrast colours).

• Main colour (grey): 550m.
• Contrasting colour 1 (pink): 35m.
• Contrasting colour 2 (orange): 65m.

The pattern would be easily adaptable to DK or fingering weight yarn.

DK yarn: simply follow the pattern as written. It’ll just be a bit bigger.

Fingering yarn: Instructions have now been added to the pattern for a fingering-weight version. You’ll need approximately 700m of the main colour and 50m and 70m of the contrast colours.
