Pendueles socks
The Pendueles socks are knitted from the toe up and have a short row heel. They have a simple colourwork pattern that is easy to memorise and only two colours per round. I have included links to tutorials that will help you with the techniques you need to complete your project.
MATERIALS
- 2.25 mm (US 1) needles for the toe, heel and cuff.
- 2.5 mm (US 11/2) needles for the colourwork.
You can use circular needles, either 80 cm / 32” long (if you use the magic loop method), or 23 cm / 9” long (if you prefer short circulars) or DPNs (double-pointed needles). If you use short circular needles you’ll still need a long circular needle or DPNs for casting on and the toe increases until you have enough stitches to work comfortably on a shorter needle - 1 removable marker, tapestry needle.
YARN
Fingering (400 m / 436 yards in 100 g) or light fingering (425 m / 465 yards in 100 g) in 3 colours. I used Pascuali Pinta (212 m in 50 g, 60% merino, 20% silk, 20% ramie).
- Main colour (MC): 180-300 m / 197–328 yards. I used colour 119 Espresso (brown).
- Contrasting colour 1 (CC1): 90-160 m / 98–175 yards. I used colour 122 Beige (cream).
- Contrasting colour 2 (CC2): 20-60 m / 22–66 yards. I used colour 118 Rost (orange).
The amount of yarn you need will depend on the size (see below) and shoe size. For guidance, for a size M and EUR 38 (UK 5), I used 210 m / 230 yards for MC, 110 m / 120 yards for CC1 and 45 m / 49 yards for CC2.
SIZES
S (M, L)
In the pattern I give 3 sizes based on your foot circumference around the widest part of the foot (more or less where your foot bends when you tip-toe).
- Size S (small): 20–21 cm / 8”
- Size M (medium): 22–24 cm / 9”
- Size L (large): 25–26 cm / 10”
These sizes are based only on the width of your foot and not the length. The pattern has instructions for how adapt your socks to the length of your foot.
GAUGE
34 stitches and 36 rounds in 10 cm / 4 inches in colourwork, after blocking.
