Mandecha
Mandecha is a baby blanket based on the Andecha shawl. It starts in the centre with a pinhole cast on and it is knitted in the round. The pattern includes links to video tutorials for all the techniques used.
MATERIALS AND YARN
I made it with sport weight yarn (250 m per 100 g) but you could use any yarn weight you want. I would recommend the following needles for different yarn weights:
- fingering: 3.5 mm (US4)
- sport: 4 mm (US6)
- DK: 4.5 mm (US7)
- worsted / aran: 5mm (US8)
You could also combine two strands of the same weight, e.g. two fingering strands to make a DK equivalent. One of the strands could be the same colour throughout the pattern and the other could change in each section… so many possibilities!
This is the amount of yarn I used (in sport weight):
CC (contrast colour, i.e. white in my sample): 175 m / 192 yds
C1 (yellow): 25 m / 28 yds
C2 (orange): 40 m / 44 yds
C3 (pink): 65 m / 71 yds
C4 (green): 90 m / 98 yds
C5 (turquoise): 115 m / 126 yds
C6 (dark blue): 160 m / 175 yds (135 m / 147 yds for the main section and 25 m / 28 yds for the stripe in between the final two white sections)
DIMENSIONS
90 x 90 cm (35 x 35 in) after blocking.
If you want to make it bigger, you should allow approximately an extra 25 m / 28 yds of yarn for each additional stripe, i.e. you’d need 160 m / 175 yds for C7, 185 m / 202 yds for C8, etc.
