Atayu
Atayu is a top-down sweater knitted in the round, without seam. It has a yoke with traditional Fair Isle motives (stranded colourwork) in several colours. They’re small patterns, with repeats that are easy to memorise and where we never have more than 2 colours per round. Use any fingering yarn scraps and have fun creating your own palette to make a unique sweater. “Atayu” is the name for a small group of sheep in a village in the dialect spoken in Asturias, the northern Spanish region where I was born.
MATERIALS
- 3.5 mm (US 4) circular needles. Adjust if necessary to achieve gauge – see below. If you tend to knit colourwork a bit tight, you should go up a needle size for that section.
- 3 mm (US 21/2) circular needles or a size smaller than the main needles for the ribbing.
- Markers, tapestry needle and waste yarn or extra cables to put the sleeve stitches on hold.
SIZES
1 (2, 3, 4) (5, 6, 7) (8, 9)
How to choose your size: measure your bust circumference, add the ease recommended below (i.e. 0-10 cm / 0-4”) and find the “finished circumference at bust” measurement below that is closest to that figure. Make sure your gauge matches the one given below to ensure your finished garment will be the same dimensions.
